SEARCHING for MEANING...

Looking for Meaning in Art? Good! because that's the goal of our semester. As we explore the art elements and various art media, we will be making deeper connections to a Big Idea. Some of the Big Ideas we will delve into will be: SYMBOLS, POWER, PLACE, IDENTITY.

We may examine more Big Ideas than this, or we may just wallow in each of these until we are saturated with all the contents of their possibilities.

Get ready to dive in!!!

What do we think of my first piece? I call it "Fountain"

Greetings and Salutations!

Welcome to my Remarkable Atelier! I am R. Mutt, your host and guide. The first thing you may be wondering is “What the heck is an atelier anyway?” That’s pronounced ah-tell-ee-ay. It’s French! Well, an atelier is another word for a studio or an artist’s work space. This is my space to talk and think about art. So this atelier is where I post information about what I am thinking about art-wise.
And “Why is it so darn remarkable?” you may ask…Well, what makes it so remarkable is that it is also available for you to post what you are thinking about art. Here you can post your thoughts and comments about my latest creation, we can conversate about a work of art, or we can throw around amusing thoughts in general.
You can check to see what assignments and projects are in the works for class or share some ideas about art work you are working on. What makes this space interesting will really depend on how involved you want to get. Come to just read up on art or interact with fellow artists, its up to you! Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy yourself and maybe learn something new too!
Cheers!
Monsieur R. Mutt

Intro to Art Currently

Current Unit: Heroes

Current Project: Calaveras Hero Relief Portraits

Project Description: You will create a portrait painting with elements of relief & 2-D depth that honors a personal hero.

The face will be constructed from a papier mache mask and attached to a flat surface. The surrounding flat surface will provide a painted scene with a foreground, middle ground, and background for your hero (the mask). You should use what you know about creating the illusion of depth on a flat surface to enhance the feeling of space around the figure.
